No Practice

There will be no practice Friday 1/30/09.  The pool will be used for the Dive In.  We will be playing Wall E in the pool area from 7-9.  All are welcome.

Swimmer of the Day

Congratulations Piranhas on our win.  With that win, we finished our season with a 4-1 Record, a great improvement from last year when we went 2-2.  We had some more good swims, and added Jessica Bai, Jonathan Lee, and Vivian Li to our lineup of swimmers qualifed for Silvers.

Our swimmer of the day goes to Gina Gugliotta, age 10, who had the difficult task of swimming against thirteen year olds and older in the 200 IM.  Given that she was only half the height of the swimmer next to her, she performed exceptionally, finishing with a silver qualifying time.  On that last fifty when usually your arms feel like lead and you’re gasping for breath she still looked like she could have gone another fifty.  Great swim.

I’d just like to emphasize how proud all the coaches are of our swimmers this year.  Regardless of any incidents, the team has shown a great deal of spirit and enthusiasm that a coach could only dream of.  Everyone should feel very happy about themselves.

Garfield Swim Meet Cancelled

The Garfield swim meet is now cancelled.  It will be rescheduled for Sunday, January 25th.  Please sign up again for the meet, and for volunteering.  Once I get a time I will post it on the website and email it to everyone.  This is a good chance to sign up if you haven’t met the 3 meet requirements for champs.  Have a good weekend.

Swimmer of the Day

Good job Piranhas on a well fought meet.  It was really close, and everyone put up an awesome effort.  The races were incredibly exciting to watch with finishes that could have gone either way.  Not to sound redundant, but you all were once again incredibly enthusiastic, showing a lot of team spirit.

Our first swimmer of the day goes to Amandalis Barrood who due to a lack of foresight by yours truly was forced to swim breaststroke by herself.  One of the hardest races is a race against yourself; it is very difficult to find the motivation to push yourself especially when there is no one else in the pool yet Amandalis performed admirably posting her fastest time.  Great swimming.

The second recognition goes to our 13 and up group: Amanda, Reuben, Darius, Avery, and Anuka (our honorary 13 and up).  It is very intimidating and can be completely overwhelming swimming against kids two, three, four years older than you, but you all did a great job.  Every single one of you posted your fastest times yet.  We (the coaches) are really proud of all you (and every swimmer in general).  This has been a great season so far.  Even if we don’t always say it we are really happy, excited, (insert more positive adjectives) of all the hard work, improvement, enthusiasm we’ve been seeing this year.  Keep it up.
